The suspension of Arda Güler opened the door to making changes, but Mourinho opted for Brahim Díaz. The coach justified his choice based on the Malaga-born player's characteristics: "I have had to play with Brahim, who, like Arda Güler, is a more associative player and can drop a bit more".

The decision again left Yan Diomande on the bench, who still has not made a start this season for Real Madrid. The coach believes the profile of the Ivory Coast international is different from what he needed to replace Güler in this match.

Mourinho also made it clear that he has the attacker in mind, although his arrival requires patience. "Later on I will think about Diomande, who is a different kind of player", he said before adding an explanation about his adaptation: "He arrived on the last day and has to go step by step".
