Real Sociedad - Atlético

Match date: 13/09-21:00

Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad face a stern test at the Reale Arena against an Atlético de Madrid side that is always tough to break down, but one that is in a good run of form and ready to make a statement. The morale boost after a victory in the final minutes against 2-3 at Elche confirms the strong feelings of this start to the season.

The step up compared to the final stretch of last season is undeniable. The team shows much more fluidity with the ball, sharpness in the final third and brutal competitiveness. Matarazzo is gradually defining his ideal XI, although the high competition in several areas of the squad continues to raise doubts and open up different options.

Hard days are coming because there will be three matches in seven days, although Real has already played its match from matchday 6 against Celta, meaning they will have more time than the rest of the teams to recharge and take advantage of that small edge. The coach will field the best possible XI, with doubts over Kubo, Barrene and Turrientes, who have serious chances of making the starting lineup.

Atlético de Madrid

Atlético arrive with little room for recovery after going down 2-1 to Liverpool in the Champions League. Simeone surprised by giving a start to Julián Álvarez at Anfield and the Argentine left better physical impressions, but the European effort opens the door to changes in Anoeta.

The clear absentee remains Alexander Sorloth, who continues to recover from a muscular injury. Jonathan David is already integrated and made his debut for Atlético in Liverpool, while Julián has regained prominence after several weeks affected by his physical condition. Le Normand has already served his league suspension and is available.

Oblak, Llorente, Pubill, Hancko and Grimaldo appear to have plenty of backing to form the core of the team, with Barrios and Hjulmand well positioned in midfield. The biggest uncertainty is up front: some forecasts already have Julián Álvarez as a starter, while others keep the Argentine on the bench and bet on the mobility of Kang-in, Baena, Lookman and Giuliano.
