This Saturday, Athletic Club will kick off their participation in the league against Sevilla at San Mamés. They will begin their campaign in matchday two, since the first round was postponed due to Spain's conquest of the world title in national teams, in which three players from the rojiblanco squad took part.

This fixture will mark the start of a new era on the Bilbao bench, the Edin Terzic era. The German coach took charge of the team this summer after four seasons of Ernesto Valverde, who left the bar set very high. This season, the rojiblancos will try to qualify for European competitions again after last campaign's failure to achieve it. To do so, they will need to pick up the first three points of the season against a rival that, while it has not been particularly strong in recent years, has started LaLiga on the right foot after beating Rayo Vallecano.

For the clash, the manager will have practically the entire squad available, with the exception of Daniel Vivian. It has been reported that the centre-back is suffering from discomfort linked to pubalgia that he has been carrying since the middle of last season. There are not expected to be major changes in the starting XI. The main doubts will be whether Nico Williams is fit to start, as well as Laporte, since both players have not played a single minute in this pre-season, so starting them looks complicated. Another question mark is the right-back spot, based on what we saw in pre-season, Hugo Rincón should be in the starting lineup, but in the most recent match against Atalanta the spot went to Areso.

A great atmosphere is expected in the stands to witness the start of what many believe will be a new era at Athletic Club. It also coincides with the start of the festivities in the Basque capital, Aste Nagusia.

Sevilla FC

If you blink, you miss it.

The second matchday of the league is already here and, despite the fact that some of the first round's games were postponed, regular competition is back to normal to bring us the usual show. Among the fixtures taking place, we have an intriguing Athletic Club - Sevilla FC that, as happened last season, will represent the league debut for the Basques in front of their own fans.

For the Seville side, the appointment comes at a good time after the comeback against Rayo Vallecano last weekend. Luis García Plaza's men recovered from a disastrous first half to finish by taking the three points, a result that gives them confidence heading into their first away test. That said, the setting will not be easy: they face a formidable opponent, buoyed by their home crowd and with a new coach, whose style of play is still something of an unknown.

So the Sevilla will have a good opportunity to test how far they can go at the start of the season. A win away from Andalusia's capital could be the cure needed for Nervión to find the consistency that will be necessary if they want to avoid suffering in the standings.
