MDThe Getafe were looking for muscle, range and discipline to rebuild their midfield. The answer has come from Zaragoza. Francho Serrano, at 24 years old, changes clubs for the first time in his professional career and joins the José Bordalás project through 2029.
The blue-and-black side have lost key players in midfield, including Mauro Arambarri and Luis Milla, and needed players ready to take on work from day one.
Bordalás will have several options to shape his midfield, but the new signing arrives with an advantage: he knows the trade of playing lots of matches and competing every week.
A midfielder of the kind that holds the team together
Francho is not a midfielder built around offensive numbers. His game starts elsewhere: recovery, positioning and the ability to cover ground.
He can play in front of the back line, take part in a double pivot and move a few yards forward when the team needs to gain presence in the opponent's half. He does not need to show up continuously in the statistics to influence the match. He can help close lines, press the opponent and keep the ball moving.
The blue-and-black coach usually demands intensity, concentration and defensive commitment. Francho also arrives after several years competing in an environment where the pressure was high too.
His last season explains the signing
Francho finished the 2025/26 season with 35 matches played for Real Zaragoza. Along with consistency, he had a special weight in the dressing room for serving as one of the captains.
That detail is important to understand what the Getafe are looking for, because they are not bringing in a player who needs to start from scratch in terms of responsibility. Francho has already lived through pressure situations and has had to take on a leading role with the armband.
In the 2022/23 campaign, he took part in 37 official matches, 36 of them in Segunda División. In the 2023/24 season he played 23 matches and surpassed 1,700 minutes.
The step he had been waiting for
Francho joined Zaragoza's academy at a young age and worked his way through the different categories until he earned a place in the first team. He also had a presence in the lower ranks of the Spanish national team. He played two matches with the Under-21s, an experience that completed his competitive training.
This is his first move away from Zaragoza and also his first chance to prove he can settle in the top tier. Ahead of him will be a season with the Conference League, in addition to domestic competition.
The signing does not mean that Francho will automatically be a starter. Competition in midfield will be important and the coach will have to decide which combination offers the best balance.
He will also have to adapt to a more demanding style of football and in La Liga he will have less time to think; he will face opponents with greater individual ability, and every loss of possession can have bigger consequences.
A tough goodbye in Zaragoza
The move has an emotional reading at La Romareda because Francho was not only a squad player. He was a homegrown player and one of the captains. The midfielder acknowledged that leaving was a difficult decision and recalled that he had always imagined his career tied to Zaragoza.
The move has also not pleased part of the fanbase, who believe that the club is losing one of its players identified with the academy.
Fantasy recommendation
Francho is an interesting bet, but not yet a priority signing.
His main Fantasy argument could be in the minutes, if Bordalás quickly includes him in his plans, he could become a useful player to fill out squads thanks to his consistency and a profile that can generate points through defensive actions and constant involvement.
His drawback: He does not start out as a midfielder particularly oriented towards goals or assists, so it will be difficult to expect big scoring spikes.
His arrival at Getafe also means you have to wait to find out his exact role.
Recommendation: opportunity signing.
If his initial price is expected to be very low and it could make sense to include him and check his progress during the first few matchdays. If he wins a starting spot and accumulates minutes, his value could rise.
