The first matchday of LaLiga 2026/27 will be played in two different blocks, a special matchday with the 7 games that take place before matchday 2 and an extra matchday with the remaining 3 games.

Comunio confirms a special Matchday 1 with just seven games

The start of the 2026/27 season will be completely different from usual. Comunio has officially confirmed how it will handle LaLiga's unusual Matchday 1, which will feature several postponed matches and will run beyond the start of the competition's second round.

The solution chosen by Comunio will be to split those fixtures: there will be a Matchday 1 made up of seven matches, then a full Matchday 2, and finally a extra matchday with the remaining three games from LaLiga's first matchday.

The seven fixtures that will make up Comunio's Matchday 1 are:

  • Alavés - Getafe: 15 August, 19:30.
  • Sevilla - Rayo Vallecano: 15 August, 21:30.
  • Racing Club - Villarreal: 16 August, 17:00.
  • Espanyol - Levante: 16 August, 19:00.
  • Celta - Osasuna: 16 August, 21:30.
  • Deportivo - Elche: 17 August, 21:00.
  • Atlético de Madrid - Málaga: 19 August, 21:00.

This means that only players from these fourteen teams will be able to score points in Comunio's Matchday 1. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club, Real Sociedad, Valencia and Real Betis players will have to wait for the extra matchday.

Comunio's Matchday 2 will be complete

After these seven games are finished, Comunio will continue the competition as normal. LaLiga's Matchday 2 will also be Comunio's Matchday 2 and will include all the matches scheduled for that date.

The second matchday will begin just a day after the first fantasy matchday ends, so managers will have very little room to change their squads, make signings and prepare a new lineup.

Comunio will not wait for the three postponed matches from LaLiga's first date to be played. Those fixtures will be separated from matchdays 1 and 2 and will have their own scoring.

Comunio will create an extra matchday with three games

The three postponed matches from Matchday 1 will officially form an independent extra matchday in Comunio. They will be played once the competition's second matchday has already been completed:

  • Valencia - Real Betis: 25 August, 21:00.
  • Real Madrid - Real Sociedad: 26 August, 21:00.
  • Barcelona - Athletic Club: 27 August, 21:00.

For this date, users will be able to set up a new specific lineup. Only players from Valencia, Real Betis, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Barcelona and Athletic Club will be able to score points.

This makes the extra matchday a very particular date, since there will be only six teams available to complete the lineup.

What should you do with your signings for Comunio's Matchday 1?

The confirmation of the format will significantly change the transfer-market strategy during the first few days of the season. For Comunio's Matchday 1, you will need to prioritize players from the fourteen teams that will actually play.

If you have too many players from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club, Real Sociedad, Valencia or Betis, you could end up with several gaps in your initial lineup. For that reason, it could be interesting to look in the market for budget players who allow you to fill the XI without necessarily having to give up important players for the rest of the season.

This first matchday could especially boost the fantasy value of cheap starters from teams such as Alavés, Getafe, Sevilla, Rayo Vallecano, Racing, Villarreal, Espanyol, Levante, Celta, Osasuna, Deportivo, Elche, Atlético de Madrid or Málaga.

We do not recommend automatically selling a star just because they do not play Matchday 1. The key will be finding a balance between keeping the important players for the rest of the season and having enough players who will play to complete your first lineup.

The extra matchday can also become a market opportunity

The strategy will change completely just a few days later. In the extra matchday, only players from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club, Real Sociedad, Valencia and Real Betis will be able to score points.

Users who manage to get ahead of the curve could take advantage of the market to bring in players from these teams before demand increases. Even some players who are usually less appealing could gain special value for that specific matchday simply because they will be playing.

It will be important not to wait until the last moment. As the extra matchday approaches, it is likely that many managers will look for players from these six clubs in an attempt to complete their lineup.

This is how the first Comunio matchdays for 2026/27 are set

So the start of Comunio is clearly structured in this way: Matchday 1 with seven games, a full Matchday 2 and an extra matchday with three fixtures.

This schedule will force managers to handle the market with much more attention than usual. In just a few days, you will need to prepare three different lineups, two of them shaped by a reduced number of teams available.

A good plan can make a big difference from the very beginning of the season, especially in communities where bonuses for points or standings carry significant weight.

Why have these LaLiga matches been postponed?

The calendar change is due to the extra rest granted to several teams with players who reached the World Cup final. LaLiga decided to move its first-matchday fixtures to make it easier for these players to recover before fully joining the competition.

As a result, Matchday 2 is played before the three last fixtures officially belonging to Matchday 1. This situation has led Comunio to separate those games and turn them into an independent matchday.

A Comunio start where planning will be key

With the decision now officially confirmed, users can prepare their strategy in advance. Comunio's Matchday 1 for 2026/27 will require having players from the fourteen teams that have games, while just a few days later you will have to think practically about the opposite situation in order to tackle the extra matchday.

From Comuniate, we will continue analyzing the market and publishing recommended players, bargains and fantasy opportunities for Matchday 1, as well as all the necessary updates to face this unusual start to the season without giving your rivals free points.
