Deportivo and Elche go head-to-head for Deiver Machado after he was released by Nantes

The future of Deiver Machado looks set to be decided away from the Nantes. The Colombian left-back, who has been released after finishing his spell with the French club, has attracted interest from several European and Spanish sides. Deportivo de La Coruña and Elche are, for now, two of the teams keeping the closest eye on his situation.

The Galician outfit is looking to strengthen the left flank and has included the Colombian international among the options being considered by Fernando Soriano's sporting directorate, but it is not the only one in the race. El Elche has also stepped up its contacts to sign a player who would arrive without a transfer fee and with extensive experience in European football.

Another team keeping a close watch would be Sporting de Portugal, which is also monitoring his future.

At 32 years old, Machado faces a new opportunity after closing his chapter at the Nantes. The French club's relegation to Ligue 2 prompted his exit, despite having a contract until 2028. Before wearing the Nantes shirt, the Colombian spent five seasons at the Lens, where he established himself as one of the most reliable full-backs in Ligue 1, following an initial spell in France with the Toulouse and a previous one at the Belgian club Gent.

In the 2025/26 season, Deiver Machado played 28 official matches with the Nantes across Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France. He amassed 1,881 minutes, scored one goal and provided three assists, remaining one of the team's key figures on the left flank despite a difficult campaign that ended in relegation. His ability to get forward, his physical drive and his international experience remain his main calling cards.

The Colombian was also present at the 2026 World Cup with his national team. Although he was only a starter in one group-stage match, he again showed that he has the level to compete at the highest international level.

While Deportivo continues to study the different options to strengthen the left-back position, the name of Deiver Machado is gathering momentum. Elche's interest and that of other European clubs point to a competitive deal, although the fact that he would arrive as a free agent makes the Colombian one of the most attractive opportunities on the market.
