Racing are trying to secure the loan of Jofre Torrents, although Ajax are also making a play for the Barcelona full-back, who is looking for minutes away from the club

Real Racing Club Santander

The Racing de Santander have set their sights on Jofre Torrents to strengthen the left-back, although the deal is far from straightforward. The young Barcelona player is also on the radar of the Ajax, who want to bring him in on loan this summer to speed up his development.

The Cantabrian side needs to rebuild that flank following the departure of Mario García and with the almost certain move of Jorge Salinas, one of last season's breakthrough players. The academy product put together a strong campaign in LaLiga Hypermotion and also won the Under-19 European Championship with Spain, which has sparked interest from several clubs, including Barcelona itself.

At the Blaugrana club, they believe Jofre Torrents has already completed his time in the reserves and that the best thing for his development is to play a season with continuity in professional football. While he is in pre-season under Hansi Flick, the sporting department is looking for the most suitable destination for the 19-year-old full-back.

During the 2025/26 season, he made an important step forward and played 15 matches for Barça Atlètic in Segunda Federación, and he also made his debut with the first team, racking up three LaLiga appearances and another in the Copa del Rey. His performances convinced the coaching staff, who kept him in the first-team picture for much of the campaign.

Jofre is a full-back who is instantly recognisable for the La Masia stamp. He stands out for his ability to join the attack, his pace to cover the entire flank and his technical quality in the opposing team's half. He likes to play very high up, offer constant passing lines and create overloads out wide, although he is still working on defensive aspects and on managing physical duels, which is logical given his age.

The Racing see in him a market opportunity, but the Ajax represent significant competition. The Dutch club continues to assess the possibility of signing him despite having recently brought in Caio Henrique for that position, so the final decision will depend on the sporting project that convinces the player and Barcelona the most.

The move could be linked to Jorge Salinas. The Barça continue to be interested in the Racing full-back, although they are not willing to pay the €16 million of his release clause. A loan for Jofre Torrents could help bring the two clubs closer together. In the meantime, the defender remains under contract with the Blaugrana side until June 2028 and faces a key summer in which to decide the next step in his career.
