Racing is in talks with Espanyol over the signing of Pablo Ramón. The centre-back wants to return to Santander and the deal is expected to be completed via a transfer.

Real Racing Club Santander

The Racing keeps moving to seal the return of Pablo Ramón, the Baleares centre-back who was on loan last season in Santander. He is again a priority for the Cantabrian club and talks with Espanyol are progressing in the expected direction.

Racing's main card is the player's willingness, because Pablo Ramón wants to continue at El Sardinero after a campaign in which he found regular playing time and left a good impression. That readiness makes it easier to negotiate an arrangement in which all parties work to reach an agreement.

Even though he has a contract with Espanyol until 2028, the defender is not in Manolo González's plans. The Catalan club has already informed several players returning from loan spells that they should look for an exit, a scenario that opens the door to his departure this summer.

Racing wants to sign him outright, a formula similar to the one used with Javi Castro and which would also allow them to free loan slots for other reinforcements.

Pablo Ramón played 27 official matches last season, 22 of them as a starter, despite missing close to two months due to a hamstring injury. His performances convinced both the sporting department and the coaching staff, who believe he is ready to compete in LaLiga.

Trained in the Mallorca academy, the defender went through the Real Madrid Castilla set-up before playing on loan at the Mirandés and then signing for the Espanyol. He can play as a right-sided centre-back or right-back and stands out for his ability to start the play from the back, one of the qualities that Racing values most when strengthening its defence.
