Leo Román is very close to becoming the new player of the Deportivo de La Coruña. The Galician club already has an agreement with the Ibiza-born goalkeeper and is working to tie up the final details before triggering the release clause, set at nine million euros after Mallorca's relegation to Segunda División.

The main pending issue is to fit the goalkeeper's salary within the Deportivo's wage limit, as they face his return to the top flight eight years later. If no setbacks arise, the Coruña club will complete one of the biggest moves of its transfer window.

The future of Leo Román has been up in the air for weeks due to interest from several Spanish teams; the goalkeeper recently negotiated with a club in Turkey. Talks progressed between the two sides, but the potential transfer ended up falling through when the Turkish club changed the terms of the agreement at the last minute.

The goalkeeper's intention was always to stay at the Mallorca, but relegation completely changed the picture and made an exit that now seems inevitable easier. With their sights set on next season, the keeper is looking to maintain his progress and remain in the plans of the Spain national team after recently being included in Luis de la Fuente's shortlist for the World Cup.

Last summer he was also close to leaving Son Moix. The Genoa offered four million euros in fixed fees plus another 2.5 in add-ons, although the Mallorca rejected the proposal. Shortly afterwards, the Balearic club renewed the goalkeeper's contract until 2029 after backing him as their reference keeper.

Leo Román is one step away from changing his destination, and if the Deportivo triggers the clause, Mallorca will receive nine million euros for one of the most promising players in their squad and will continue to increase the revenue they have earned following relegation.
