Sevilla stalls Peque's return to Racing
The Racing de Santander wants to bring back Gerard Fernández, Peque, for their return to LaLiga. For now, the deal is still far from being closed because the first Cantabrian offer has not convinced Sevilla.

MDThe deal put forward by Racing has not worked to narrow the gap. The Santander club has requested the loan of the Catalan forward, taking on only part of his wages, an option that the Sevilla will not accept because it would not allow them enough room under the salary cap to register players.
Peque left a big mark in Santander. Two seasons ago, he was an important piece in LaLiga Hypermotion, where he scored 19 goals and finished as one of the top scorers in the division. That output led Sevilla to pay the 4 million euros of his release clause.
His time at the Sánchez Pizjuán, however, has not brought the expected consistency. Neither with García Pimienta, nor after that with Joaquín Caparrós, nor in the previous campaign with Almeyda and García Plaza, did the forward find clear regularity within the squad.
Racing are hoping for another chance
Manolo Herrero, Racing president, already admitted after the promotion that Peque's return was a compelling possibility, although complicated by the investment Sevilla made at the time. “On Monday Jose Alberto and I did speak with Peque. He is one of ours, but we sold him to Sevilla for four million euros and, of course, now they are not going to give him to you for free. It is really complicated”, he explained then.
According to the daily As, Sevilla is waiting for a second offer. García Plaza, despite not giving Peque too much prominence, would rather he not leave the squad, as he knows him and believes he can be useful during the season.
