Defence under construction: three safe exits and two pending doubts at Getafe

At the offices of Getafe, several decisions have already been made, even though the big summer uncertainty is still up in the air: the future of José Bordalás. Much of the club's sporting planning is tied to his future, but some moves are already final.

Defence will be one of the most affected areas of the squad. Diego Rico, Domingos Duarte and Juan Iglesias contracts expire on 30 June and will not stay at the azulón club. The three have had a prominent role during the season and leave a major gap in a line that will also have to handle a heavier schedule of matches next term, with LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Conference League on the calendar.

Juan Iglesias is the most striking case. The full-back played 37 LaLiga matches, scored a goal and provided two assists. Getafe tried to renew him, but the player opted to accept the Sevilla proposal to begin a new chapter in Nervión.

Meanwhile, two folders remain open. The first is Djené. The captain wants to continue and the club is willing to offer him a renewal, although with economic terms lower than the current ones. The Togolese has played 34 league games this season and has not registered any goals or assists.

The other pending situation is that of Allan Nyom. At 38 years old, the veteran defender does not put pressure on the club and accepts any of the scenarios. At the Coliseum they value his experience and his weight in the dressing room, especially with a season featuring three competitions. Nyom has played 11 LaLiga matches and has also not signed any goals or assists.

With three confirmed departures and two renewals still to be resolved, the sporting leadership is clear that it will need to strengthen the back line. The final decision on Bordalás could set the pace of the operations, but the work in the offices has already begun.
