Nico Paz returns to Real Madrid after standing out at Como

If Nico Paz ends up returning to Real Madrid, it’s not out of nostalgia or a marketing operation, but because his football at Como has been brilliant.

At Como 1907 he has played with quite a bit of freedom, almost always near the ball and without the obligation to stick to just one area. That has allowed him to appear between the lines, turn quickly when receiving with his back to goal, and always look for an action that breaks the previous play, even if it’s not the safest option.

Nico Paz doesn’t operate like a classic attacking midfielder waiting for the final pass. He moves a lot, drops deep to start plays and combines in short passes before accelerating the pace with a vertical pass or a directional control that immediately gives the team an advantage. His impact depends less on accumulating touches, and more on when he decides to intervene.

In Serie A he has had real continuity: full matches, constant involvement, and numbers to back it up (goals and assists), but above all a sense of a player who understands when the team needs to slow down and when it needs to move forward without detours.

This season he has played a total of 40 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 8 assists.

If Real Madrid activates the buyback clause of €9M, they wouldn’t be signing just a luxury backup. They would be recovering someone who already knows how to compete in a demanding environment and who can fit into several roles without depending on a single fixed function.

We’re talking about a player whose market value, according to transfermarkt, is currently €65M, no less. When Madrid sold him in June 2024 for 6, he was worth 10. When he finished his first year at Como he was valued at 35, and at that point he has nearly doubled last year’s price. The deal makes sense financially, and sportingly, does it make sense to you?
