Sarabia leaves Elche after achieving the goal of staying up

The coach’s appearance left an unexpected turn in the club’s planning, which counted on his continuation since he still had one more year on his contract. Sarabia thus ends a short but hugely important stage for the franjiverde entity.

The Basque coach arrived at Elche at a complicated moment and managed to change the team’s sporting direction. With a recognizable proposal and a very defined style of play, he brought the Ilicitano squad back to the First Division and, once in the elite, achieved a hard-fought survival that will be linked to his time at the club.

The recently completed season also left a historically valuable fact: the team reached the club’s points record since wins have been worth three points. That performance had reinforced Sarabia’s role as a central figure in the project driven by Christian Bragarnik.

A change of course in the middle of planning

The coach’s departure now forces the club to remake a large part of its roadmap for the next season. The sports management took his presence on the bench for granted, to the point that Bragarnik himself had conveyed days earlier that the coach would continue given his active contract.
