Valencia CF arrives at the last day of LaLiga with chances to qualify for European competition, although they no longer depend on themselves. The Che team needs to beat FC Barcelona at Mestalla and hope for two slip-ups from others to finish seventh and secure a ticket to the Conference League.

Valencia CF

Valencia faces the end of the season positioned in ninth place with 46 points. Ahead are Rayo Vallecano, with 47, and Getafe, currently occupying seventh place with 48 points. That seventh position is what keeps the European dream alive for the Valencian team.

The situation does not allow for much interpretation: Valencia must win against Barcelona. A draw or a loss would leave the team mathematically unable to reach seventh place.

What Valencia needs to qualify for Europe

For Valencia to finish the day in a European spot, three conditions must happen simultaneously:

  • Valencia must beat FC Barcelona at Mestalla.
  • Getafe must not win against Osasuna.
  • Rayo Vallecano must not win against Alavés.

If that combination occurs, Valencia would reach 49 points and could surpass their two direct rivals. In the case of Getafe, even a draw for the Azulones would be enough for Valencia, as both would finish with 49 points, but the Che team has won the head-to-head since they prevailed in both direct encounters this season.

Mestalla, obliged to do its part against the champion

The big problem for Valencia is that the first condition will not be easy at all. The opponent will be an FC Barcelona who comes as the league champion and, although already holding the title, remains one of the strongest teams in the championship.

For Valencia, the match feels like a final. There is no room for speculation, no point in watching other fields too closely if the team does not first fulfill its obligation. Mestalla will have to push from the first minute on a night that could end in a European celebration or a bitter farewell to the season.

Getafe and Rayo, the other two focal points of the day

In addition to what happens at Mestalla, Valencian eyes will be on two more stadiums. Getafe will host Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano will visit Alavés. Both matches will be played at the same time as Valencia - Barcelona, so the excitement could change minute by minute.

Getafe is the one with the advantage because they depend on themselves: if they win, they will be seventh and leave Valencia without options. Rayo, meanwhile, is also ahead of the Che and would force Valencia to wait for a slip-up from Vallecano.
