Marius Marin is one medical examination away from signing with Sevilla as a free agent after recovering from his injury and saying goodbye to Pisa.

Sevilla FC

Sevilla FC continues to move in the market with the calculator in one hand… and a sharp eye in the other, they have no other choice for now. The next name to land at Nervión is that of Romanian midfielder Marius Marin, who this very week will undergo a medical examination to definitively close his signing for the Sevilla team.

As reported by the EFE Agency, the player would already have a pre-agreement with Sevilla to arrive as a free agent this summer. Basically, only the final “ok” from the medical team is missing for the deal to be closed.

The Knee, the Only Obstacle

The club wants to take it slow: the knee injury that Marin suffered last March. The central midfielder had a sprain that triggered some alarms, although the outlook in Italy is positive.

The player has already been called up again for a Pisa match in recent rounds against Cremonese and Napoli, although he did not play a single minute in any match. An important return right before packing his bags for Sevilla.

At Nervión they believe the risk is worth it. Marin is liked for his experience, his ability to organize the play, and that profile of a tactical midfielder that the team has missed so much at many points during the season.

The Romanian leaves after eight seasons at the Italian club, where he has become one of the captains and the foreigner with the most appearances in the club’s history: no less than 268 matches. Quite impressive.

His departure has been in the works for some time. The player had already announced that he would not renew his contract, and Pisa's relegation has ended up accelerating everything.

Also a Return with Romania

Marin’s recovery has not only pleased Sevilla. It has also pleased the Romanian national team. The new coach, Gheorghe Hagi, has included him again for the friendly against Wales on June 6. An important call-up that shows the midfielder feels like a hundred percent himself again.

If he passes the medical tests, Marin will become the third free signing for Sevilla for the 2026/27 season.

Earlier, the fullback Juan Iglesias and Senegalese center-back Arouna Sangante had already arrived, as part of the club’s clear strategy to reinforce the squad without making big expenditures.

The sporting idea seems quite clear: proven players, with immediate experience, and financially sustainable operations.

Sevilla will have a new leader for the midfield this summer.
