Valencia CF is awaiting the medical reports of José Luis Gayà and Renzo Saravia after both were injured against Rayo Vallecano. Although the club has not yet released an official statement, the initial examinations gave bad feelings and everything points to neither returning to play this season.

Gayà was injured in the second half of the match at Mestalla. The captain felt strong discomfort in his quadriceps and quickly dropped to the turf for the medical team to come on. After being treated on the field, the technical staff reacted immediately and Corberán sent Jesús Vázquez to warm up, who came on in his place in the 63rd minute.

After the match, the fullback was examined in the locker room and the first tests point to a possible muscle tear in the quadriceps. More tests are now needed to confirm the exact extent of the injury and for Valencia to publish the final medical report. Even so, with only a few days of competition left, the club assumes that Gayà will not play again this season. That said, the feelings are that his preparation for next season is not at risk.

The injury is surprising because Gayà had completed a fairly clean physical campaign. He only missed games due to suspension and had been one of the most reliable players on the team, finishing the season with 32 matches, one goal, and two assists.

The great captain will have to support from the stands.

Something similar happened with Renzo Saravia. The Argentine requested a substitution around the half-hour mark after feeling muscle discomfort. As with Gayà, there is still no official medical report and the player will have to undergo further examinations to know the exact time of absence. Initial impressions also point to a possible muscle fiber tear, making it very unlikely that he will wear the kit again this season.

In Saravia’s case, the situation is even more significant because he ends his contract this summer and the club has not yet decided what to do with his future. This injury comes at a delicate time and could influence the final decision about his continuation at Valencia CF.
