Gonzalo and Bellingham relieve Madrid in a tough night at the Bernabéu
Real Madrid defeated Real Oviedo by 2-0 in a match that was more uncomfortable because of the atmosphere than the opponent. Gonzalo García opened the scoring before halftime and Jude Bellingham sealed the game in the second half, in a match with a very clear fantasy reading: the best points remained with the players who gave an offensive purpose to a low-pace Madrid.
The white team came in as second place with several important absences, while Oviedo faced the match as the bottom team already relegated. The context shaped a strange duel, with little real competitive tension, but a lot of focus on the Bernabéus response and on the less usual players from Madrids rotation.
First half
The start was sluggish. Madrid had the ball, but not always depth, and Oviedo managed to stretch some set-piece attacks without much continuity. Vinícius Júnior was one of the most persistent in the early stages, although he lacked accuracy in the decisive actions.
The clearest chance before the goal was with Brahim Díaz, who sent a good opportunity over the bar. Oviedo resisted with Aarón Escandell alert under the posts, but the visitors mistake ended up opening the match. In the 44th minute, Gonzalo García received the ball on the edge of the box, turned with space, and beat the keeper to score the 1-0.
Second half
After the break, Madrid managed the lead without accelerating too much. Oviedo tried to stay alive with Hassan coming on and some appearances from Nico Fonseca, but lacked real presence in the opposing area. Courtois had a relatively quiet night.
The substitutions brought more energy to the white team. Mbappé came on in the 69th minute and took part in the action that ended up settling the match: in the 80th minute, Bellingham appeared to score the 2-0. Madrid closed out the game without suffering, with more craft than brilliance and with several interesting names for Comunio.
