After securing mathematical safety thanks to the neighboring Guipuzcoan team Real Sociedad, Athletic Club will face Celta de Vigo at San Mamés. A meaningless match for the rojiblancos, as qualifying for Europe at this point seems like a pipe dream.

For the clash, the rojiblanco coach will not be able to count on Nico Williams, Sancet, and Yuri Berchiche. All of them were already absent in the match against Espanyol. In that same game, Daniel Vivian was also injured with an ankle sprain. Fortunately an away match and on a big stage this Sunday against Athletic at San Mamés.

And we say "fortunately" because the season that Real Club Celta has had at the Balaídos municipal stadium is a bad joke.

4 defeats against the last 5 placed teams, 1 point out of 15, and lamentable comebacks suffered in matches that they were leading by 2 and 3 goals. The latest "feat" was against Levante in matchday 36 when even a hypothetical qualification to the Champions League began to be dreamed of.

A slap of reality for a team that still has in its hands (...) qualification for a European tournament for the second consecutive year.

In matches outside the Olívica city, the team's face is completely different. Thanks to high offensive effectiveness combined with true collective defensive effort, they have managed to profane venues like the Bernabéu or the Metropolitano and Claudio Giráldez’s team will try to do the same at San Mamés to seal their return to Europe.

Regarding injuries, the team continues with the absences of Starfelt and Miguel Román and although Matías Vecino already has medical clearance, we believe it unlikely he will start.

Fer López has started the last 4 matches and honestly at Comuniate we can’t interpret whether that means he’s the coach’s first choice for this match or it directly implies too many consecutive starts in the initial eleven and rotation is needed.

If we turn our gaze to the defense, the question is which of these 4 players is the eternal doubt among Mingueza -Carreira -Rueda and now also Álvaro Nuñez. We take a chance with Mingueza, who played only 15 minutes last matchday, and Nuñez, who was not in the lineup and would arrive fresher than the youth fullbacks.
