The decision was announced this Wednesday, after what happened in the match against Real Sociedad. The attacking midfielder from Cieza has received seven matches: one for accumulation of cautions (art. 119), two for protests (art. 127), and four for the insult recorded in the match report (art. 99).

The referee’s report was decisive for the RFEF Disciplinary Committee to reject the appeal presented by Rayo. The report states that Guzmán Mansilla sent off Isi in the 90th minute for “entering the field of play to protest one of my decisions”. From there, the referee adds that, once sent off, the player addressed him in these terms: “You are a scoundrel”, “accompanying that expression with the gesture of pointing at me with his index finger”.

That phrase is precisely the one the player denies having said, according to the Franjirrojo president, Raúl Martín Presa, immediately after the match ended. “I feel bad because everyone guarantees me that he didn’t say what’s written in the report. With the ambient noise, I highly doubt he could be heard at that distance. He swears to me and insists that he did not insult the referee, and the rest of the bench confirms that to me”, he said, reiterating that the club would try to “justify and prove it”.

With this sanction, Isi will be out for the rest of the League (Getafe, Girona, Valencia, Villarreal, and Alavés) and won’t be able to start the next season normally either. The anger grows in Vallecas, especially after the CTA acknowledged in their program Tiempo de Revisión two VAR errors in that match against Real Sociedad: they should have intervened to warn of a penalty for Turrientes on Carlos Martín (“This is a penalty for persistent holding”) and not to overturn a Rayo goal and award a penalty to the San Sebastián team (“This is not a clear and obvious error and the VAR should not have intervened. The referee’s decision should have been respected”).

Rayo loses one of its pillars in LaLiga and in the fight to avoid relegation. The CTA has acknowledged six errors against the Franjirrojo team in 33 rounds, the highest number in the First Division, ahead of Espanyol, which totals three.
