With Oblak without minutes since early March, the coach opted to maintain continuity with the Argentine goalkeeper in a demanding match against Barcelona. The decision paid off: Musso held the team up and kept a clean sheet in a highly difficult game.

In that scenario, the Argentine accumulated seven saves and securely dealt with the Barcelona advances, on a night when Atlético needed answers in their area.

Doubt arises until the end of the season

Oblak has not played since March 7, a one-month break that marked the context of the rotation. A muscle strain kept him out of the league match against Getafe (March 14) and, since then, he has not returned to competition.

That void opened the door for Musso, who chained starts from the date Oblak was stopped. The Argentine played against Getafe, Real Madrid, and Barcelona in La Liga, and was also chosen against Tottenham and Barcelona in the Champions League. Although his role was associated with the Cup, the Slovenian's injury allowed him to gain presence in the other tournaments, and his performance gave peace of mind to the technical staff.

Until now, each absence of Oblak generated uncertainty in the rojiblanco goalkeeper position; with Musso, the outlook has changed.

At 33 years old, Oblak — with a contract until 2028 — is a club and Spanish football reference: he has won the Trofeo Zamora six times, a unique record. His market value is €17 million, but competition is now real in Atlético’s goalkeeping position. Nothing like this had happened since Moyá.

Fantasy recommendation

Our Atlético team manager sees the Slovenian returning to the starting eleven in LaLiga, but it will be another matter for the remaining important matches, especially the Champions League and Copa final, where things are not entirely clear and the Argentine might play due to his merits in a crucial phase of the season for the team’s interests.
