The club’s roadmap involves having the midfielder ready in time for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Tottenham, scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at the Metropolitano. Barrios, 22 years old, has entered the last phase of the process after passing medical tests this Thursday that confirmed the positive evolution of his muscular injury in the right thigh.

Even so, the player still worked out in the gym, separately from the group. Atlético’s expectation is that the academy graduate will rejoin collective training this Sunday, already with an eye on his gradual return to the team’s rhythm.

Before that step, he will remain sidelined for the match against Real Sociedad, a game after which he is expected to add at least one session with the rest of the teammates before the continental clash. Diego Simeone values his return, as the midfielder has established himself this season as a key piece in the rojiblanco midfield.

The player got injured a month ago in the Copa del Rey against Betis and has missed eight matches since then.
