After their heavy defeat in the last matchday against FC Barcelona, Villarreal will try to get back to winning ways in this Sunday’s derby against Elche at La Cerámica, aiming to maintain the good point cushion that separates them from Betis and Celta, their closest pursuers in the race for the Champions League spots.

Marcelino won’t be able to count on injured players Foyth and Pau Cabanes for this match, while Kambwala and Logan Costa remain doubtful despite already training with the group, due to the long time they have been out after their respective injuries. Furthermore, Ayoze Pérez has trained separately these days due to discomfort and his participation is uncertain. The good news comes from Gerard Moreno, who seems to have overcome his physical problems and could be called up and even start if the Canarian's status remains doubtful.

Thus, the yellow lineup is expected to be similar to recent matchdays, with the usual doubts at left back between Pedraza and Sergi Cardona, in central defense between Pau Navarro and Rafa Marín, in midfield between Comesaña and Parejo, and up front, where Gerard Moreno or Buchanan could come in if Ayoze ultimately is not fit.

Elche face their visit to Villarreal immersed in many doubts, both because of their recent performance and the difficulty to field a recognizable lineup. Eder Sarabia’s team arrive with only one confirmed injury absence, Héctor Fort, still recovering from shoulder surgery, and also without Yago Santiago, who will serve his second suspension game. The main mystery is Pedro Bigas, who has not been able to train normally in recent days and whose presence especially influences the central defense axis.

 In terms of football, Sarabia has several open decisions. If Bigas does not arrive in time, Chust and Pétrot are expected to start in defense, while in midfield Diangan is ready to start and challenges Cepeda. The right wing is also undecided, with Tete Morente, Josan, and Pedrosa as options, and in attack the competition continues among Álvaro Rodríguez, Rafa Mir, and André Silva for the offensive spots.
