Arbeloa’s side hosted Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in a key clash for the Blancos in their fight for LaLiga. The Madrid team wanted to take advantage of the home factor to keep pressing at the top of the table. The Blancos came with some important absences. Opposing them was a Getafe faithful to José Bordalás’ style, characterized by a compact block, tight lines, intensity, and quick transitions. The Azulones sought a long, physical match with few chances, trying to capitalize on any mistake to surprise.

FIRST HALF

The first opportunity for Real Madrid came right at the start of the match. In the first minute, Vini tried his luck, but his shot went far wide. Shortly after, Getafe responded: after a great cross from Arambarri, Diego Rico connected a volley that was intercepted by Carreras, sending the ball out for a corner.

The white team came close to scoring two minutes later when Boselli lost a risky ball. Vini was alert, recovered it, and found himself one-on-one with Soria, but the Spanish goalkeeper won the duel and prevented the first goal. In the 23rd minute, the Turkish star put on a spectacular play. He got past two Getafe center-backs with a roulette and unleashed a powerful shot to the near post, although David Soria once again appeared with a great save.

The surprise came in the 39th minute. After a poor clearance by Rüdiger, Arambarri took possession and assisted Satriano, who unleashed an unstoppable thunderbolt to the top corner to score a truly spectacular goal. The 0-1 went up on the scoreboard and Getafe went into halftime with the lead amid the disbelief of the Santiago Bernabéu.

SECOND HALF

The second half started with a warning from Getafe. After a loss by Tchouaméni, the Uruguayan Arambarri recovered the ball and tried his luck with a shot that the Belgian goalkeeper caught easily.

As the minutes passed, Real Madrid accumulated possession and advances, but none found the net. Meanwhile, the Azulón coach kept his defensive structure and made a substitution to boost counterattacks.

Time was running out and Madrid couldn’t really trouble the opposing goalkeeper. Most of the attacking actions came down Vinícius Júnior’s right flank, in a team that continued to show disorder in midfield. In the 75th minute came the clearest chance so far: a corner taken by Rodrygo, a precise cross from the Brazilian, a slight deflection by the German, and Huijsen almost pushed it in but couldn’t reach to head it.

Four minutes later, the Whites came close to equalizing again. After a great cross from Mastantuono, Rodrygo connected a header that forced David Soria to make a saving hand to prevent the goal.

Already in the 90th minute, after an excellent pass from Carreras, the Argentine faced the goal and finished with his weaker foot to the near post, but Soria appeared again to keep his team’s advantage.

And after many years, Getafe beat Real Madrid at the Bernabéu. With this, Bordalás achieves his first victory against the Blancos.
