The image left much of the stadium in silence: after a very hard hit, Raúl Asencio lay motionless on the grass after a very dramatic fall. The medical staff attended to both players, although the defender was the one who needed more assistance. Several medics went in, immobilized him and carefully placed him on the stretcher, with a neck brace.

The player left the pitch to applause and from there was taken directly by ambulance to the hospital that the club has in Valdebebas, where they performed various tests to assess the extent of the injury. For now, the club has not communicated any information about the central defender's condition. Amid the uncertainty, it was Asencio himself who, already in the early hours, wanted to ease concern with a message on social media: “Thank you for all the messages of encouragement! It was just a scare! Let's go for the next round. Hala Madrid!!!”.

After spending a few hours under observation, Raúl Asencio left the hospital. And at the end of the match, Álvaro Arbeloa also tried to convey calm during the press conference, when the player’s condition was still unknown: "It seems to be something with the neck. It does not seem serious. He has gone to the hospital and hopefully it is just a scare. It was a good hit. Seeing him there, leaving on the stretcher, made our stomach drop a bit. It seems it’s going to be nothing,” said the coach from Salamanca to the media.

Meanwhile, the medical report is still pending: the club has not shared details about the injury nor an estimated recovery time.
