Celta - Mallorca

Match date: 02/22-18:30

R.C. Celta de Vigo

Real Club Celta hosts RCD Mallorca this league matchday, after earning a point at Cornellà against Espanyol with – besides a fairly entertaining performance – a lack of finishing to kill off the game, and with a controversially disallowed goal by Panda that preceded the home team's equalizer.

A home match again against RCD Mallorca presents itself as a chance to re-establish themselves in this upper zone of the table after a few rounds in which the Celta team seems to have lost some standing in domestic competition.

The match comes during a Europa League week – after a hardworking victory against Paok – so it is certain that coach Claudio Giráldez will carefully manage the workload and minutes among the available resources.

No notable news from the medical room, in defense Manu Fernández could come in to give one of the regulars in the back line rest, such as Javi Rodríguez or perhaps Marcos Alonso. In midfield, the starts of Miguel Román and Ilaix Moriba on Thursday in Athens might mean the debut of Matías Vecino in the starting eleven, and we would bet on Javi Rueda on the wings in the starting lineup with Mingueza and Sergio Carreira competing for the other spot on the opposite side of the Vigo midfield.

Up front, Aspas would rest after his new Thursday display with a goal and assist, and the 3 attacking positions would be open to contest among Jutglà, Pablo Durán, Fer López, Hugo Álvarez, Borja Iglesias, Swedberg.... and we would lean towards those who didn't feature in the Europa League – highlighted in green.

We will see once the ball starts rolling again if the duel at Balaídos falls to the Celta or the Bermellón side!

RCD Mallorca

Mallorca once again faltered at home falling to Real Betis by 1-2. With this defeat, the Bermellón team falls back into the relegation zone and further complicates the future of the Balearic squad. The 16 goals by Muriqi are not enough, despite being outstanding, given the overall team performance. Much more will be needed to stay up, starting with improving their away record.

For the trip to Celta de Vigo at Balaídos, Jagoba Arrasate will not be able to count on the two injured players Asano and Jan Salas. Also doubtful are Kumbulla and Mojica. Raíllo seems that this time he will indeed be part of the squad. The team needs him more than ever in defense, and a return to three central defenders is not out of the question. Also, on the right wing the right solution has not been found, and Luvumbo is in some predictions to take that spot, seeking a different alternative from what the Basque coach usually sets out. All that without ruling out the inclusion of Mateo Joseph or Antonio Sánchez. Many doubts remain in the lineup configuration for this matchday.
