The Disciplinary Committee of the RFEF has resolved the case opened against Brais Méndez for his expulsion in the Basque derby last Sunday. The midfielder saw the red card in the 83rd minute for an incident with Paredes that left the team with ten men in the final stretch.

The referee's report by Guillermo Cuadra Fernández stated that the player was expelled for "being guilty of *violent conduct* by slapping an opponent in the face with excessive force without the ball being in play." The set sanction is for *two matches* in accordance with *article 130* of the Disciplinary Code.

Sanction Details

The measure falls under the section that considers "producing violence during the game or as a direct consequence of a game situation, provided that the action poses a risk, but no harmful or injurious consequences occur," an offense punishable by a *suspension of one to three matches* or up to one month. In this case, the punishment is for two matches.

As it is classified as a minor offense, the sanction does not affect the Copa del Rey MAPFRE. The Real Sociedad will be able to field the midfielder tonight in the cup tournament. In the league, the player will have to serve the suspension in the next two matches.

The decision is accepted by the Donostia club, which is dealing with a tight schedule, based on the referee's report categorizing the action as violent conduct without the ball in play. The application of article 130 has determined the number of matches for the international player.

This way, the txuri-urdin team will have Brais available for the cup match, while in the domestic league, his absence is expected for the next two matchdays. The league schedule includes a match against Elche and another against Real Madrid. He will be playing tonight against Alavés and will have to serve the suspension against Elche and Real Madrid.
