The first effect of the change will be felt directly on the bench. Óscar Sánchez, coach of VCF Mestalla, will take over the first-team duties while the club finalizes the design of its new sporting structure.

The sacking of Corberán comes after several difficult weeks on the sporting front. His situation began to deteriorate especially after the defeat in Coruña, a match that the coach himself described as "shameful". The team also failed to respond afterwards against Barcelona, suffering a 0-5 loss, nor during their visit to Sevilla, where they went down 1-0.

The club had initially planned to give the coach a three-match window before the next international break, but he only managed to complete one. After the Sánchez Pizjuán match, Corberán's future was seriously in doubt and depended on decisions coming out of Singapore.

The owners also had the chance to see the situation first-hand. Kiat Lim, the club president, was at Mestalla for the game against Barcelona and was able to keep in touch with both the dressing room and various club officials, including Gourlay and Corberán himself.

The exit reaches the entire football structure

The move is not limited to the coach. Valencia has also ended its contractual relationship with Ron Gourlay and with several members of his backroom team: Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andrés Zamora and Malek Shafei.

The club said these changes are intended "to start a new stage in its sporting structure and in the management of the football department". Gourlay's departure is particularly significant because he was one of the main backers of Corberán's renewal over the summer.

The coach had a contract until 2027, but the club decided to extend it to June 2028. At the time, Valencia presented the coach as "the ideal figure to lead the team's growth over the coming seasons" and stressed that the operation had "the full backing" of the Football CEO.

In the statement published this Sunday, the club also recalled that Corberán arrived at Mestalla with the aim of leading the project in "a complex situation that he was able to turn around". During his spell, he oversaw 72 official matches, and the club highlighted that he carried out his work "with professionalism, passion and the utmost commitment".

Valencia also thanked the coach and his collaborators for their work during their time at the club, although it did not publicly spell out the specific reasons that have led to the contract terminations.

The club did confirm that it will announce "soon the new structure for the football department and the setup of the next sporting project". It also conveyed a message of "stability and confidence in the future" and reiterated its intention to build a "solid, competitive and sustainable" project.

While that reorganization is put in place, Óscar Sánchez will lead the team on a provisional basis. Valencia travel on Tuesday to Alavés in Vitoria and on Sunday they will host Real Sociedad at Mestalla at 21:00.
