Minute distribution on the right flank looks set to change at the Athletic. Terzi? wants to assess everyone from scratch, but the club is already considering a possible exit for Andoni Gorosabel, a starter over the last two seasons and now being squeezed by internal competition and a recent physical issue.

The Guipuzcoan defender arrived in Bilbao in the summer of 2024 from the Deportivo Alavés and signed through 2028. Since then, he had settled into the rojiblanco starting XI, although the picture has changed with the new man in charge on the bench. Josean Lekue, the club's head of medical services, said on July 13 that the player was suffering from an injury to the right adductor and noted that within a couple of weeks "he will be able to train with the group normally".

The return of Hugo Rincón adds pressure to Gorosabel's situation. The Navarrese full-back returns to Lezama after his spell at Girona, where he played 35 matches between LaLiga and the Copa, scoring once and providing two assists. That battle is joined by Jesús Areso, brought in from the CA Osasuna for 12 million euros. With three full-backs for the same role, the Athletic are facing a scenario in which selling Gorosabel would help to trim the squad and clarify a position that currently has too many candidates.

The final decision rests with Terzi?. The coach made his debut on the bench during the friendly round that began on July 15, and he will be the one to decide which full-backs remain in Bilbao before the start of LaLiga.
