The deal for the goalkeeping position at Sevilla is not closed. Although Diego Conde seemed on track to become the chosen one, the agreement for the goalkeeper from Villarreal has not really moved forward, and in that scenario the prospect of Odysseas Vlachodimos staying has gained weight again.
The Greek international, aged 32, has played this season on loan at the Sánchez-Pizjuán and his intention is to continue with the Andalusian side. That wish has not gone unnoticed by Newcastle, who own his rights, and who have already set a reference figure to sit down and negotiate.
The price Newcastle is asking for
Sevilla did not include a buy option in the loan, so any attempt to keep the goalkeeper means opening talks with the English club. According to the published information, Newcastle has valued Vlachodimos at 10 million euros, despite Transfermarkt putting his market value at 3 million.
The English club is looking to recoup part of the investment made in 2024, when they paid 23.6 million euros to Nottingham Forest for the goalkeeper. At Nervión, meanwhile, there has been no official farewell for the keeper, something that did happen with other loanees such as Batista Mendy and Neal Maupay.
Vlachodimos already made his position clear months ago: "As I have said many times, I feel very good here, my family feels very good here. We love being here, we love the club, the city... But the thing is that I am a Newcastle player, so I don't know what will happen in the summer".
The financial scenario will be key for the deal to move forward. Aware of the effort Sevilla would have to make to complete the signing, the goalkeeper would be willing to take a pay cut.
